Det går ändå aldrig väl
Lystna karlar finns det nog så gott om
men ingen av dem utan fel
Tar man gammal blir han grinig
Tar man ung så blir han lat
Tar man rik så blir han girig
Tar man fattig felas mat

De är stöddiga som vetebullar
där de far i hatt och vagn
Frierierna som ärter rullar
"Bli min fru till namn och gagn!"
En går an för gods och pengar
En är pank, men så kavat
Alla bjuder de varma sängar
sköna dagar och kostlig mat

Nej, att gifta mig har jag ej bråttom

Vem går till, vem går ifrån?
