Mainline (Washington, DC) aka The Woollybacks "Stay away" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 05, 2008
DESCRIPTION:
Rehearsal space footage of Mainline (Washington, DC) aka The Woollybacks from 1998 shot by 10th member Steve Garland (who 10 years later re-enlists to upload said video). Originally unable to decide between using the names Epstein & Switchplate, Mainline started out with Jay Fox (bass - United Mutation), Mike Clayberg (guitar - Malefice, MFD & Dead Man's Hollow) & Steve Kirkland (United Mutation). After demoing a few songs, Steve stopped communicating with the band & was replaced with Scream's Kent Stax...and Keith Campbell (Black Market Baby, Tesco Vee's Hate Police) came in on 2nd guitar making the line up which recorded at Inner Ear. This video is shot in Falls Church's Barco Rebar, where we frequently rehearsed next door to the Foo Fighters (you see where that connection got us). Eventually Jay the bassist went to Antarctica (no fucking joke), we went inactive. Upon his return, we reconfigured as The Woollybacks with Alex Daniels from Swiz manning the kit, and Bob Craver (DT & the Shakes, '52 Pickup) and finally Charlie Kramer (aka Mr. Anus from Happy Flowers) on guitars. Jay split again, the band did one gig at The Big Hunt in DC with Anus filling in on bass & packed it in. Alex subsequently moved to Alabama where he played in a few bands & recently made his way back to DC where he is further pursuing his journalistic dreams. This particular number Stay Away from Jay celebrates Jay Fox's crankiness and implores the listener to Stay away...advice the lyricist still thinks prudent on the right day. Jay's now pumping out babies in Colorado & playing in a few bands including a resurrected Bullhead. Mike has gone on to win a Wammie, and Keith has been the subject of the Shoulda Woulda Coulda anthology on Dr. Strange of BMB. Mainline did a handful of shows opening for Texas Terri (Otto Bar - Baltimore) & Nation of Fear (Black Cat - DC), left behind some unfinished studio sessions, and hopes you have a nice day, have a nice day...later.
