The Not The Finger In The Ear Show was made as an Open Door project for BBC2 in 1982, designed to give a better idea of what might be found in a typical folk club of the day than all the stereotype images that abounded at the time.

Filmed at Shackleford Social Centre in Surrey, the performers - who all gave their services for free - were Pete & Chris Coe, Maggie Holland, Martin Simpson and Peta Webb & Webb's Wonders. They all ended up the evening by coming together as a dance band with caller Eddie Upton. The club MC was Lawrence Heath (with his famous jumper), and the programme was devised and introduced by Ian Anderson on behalf of the EFDSS. Colin Irwin appears as himself.

No pewter tankards were harmed in the making of this programme.
