DESCRIPTION:
Mr.Jayakrishnan a farmer in Anthiyur village of Erode district of TamilNadu ,India has designed "Power operated Off bearer cum trash mulcher" during 2003. He is a member of grassroots innovators association promoted by SEVA NGO . This implement has been tested at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University,Coimbatore in 2005. He has been awarded in the second round competetion of National Innovation Foundation , Ahmedabad. This is weeder cum ridge former is mini tractor drawn implement and it is used when sugarcene is 60-90 dyas old. The tractor moves freely between the rows of sugarcane i.e. 5 feet .
Advantages of this Machine:
1. This machine reduces the cost of labor by 50%
2. Weeding and ridging can be performed in 1 1/2 hour for 1 acre compared to more than 6 hours in manual labour.The cost is only Rs 1500 compared to manual method which costs Rs 6000.
3. By using this weeder it provides relief to the farmers from burning the trashes which is known for converting biomass in to compost. It incorporates 5-7 tons of organic waste in to the soil and therefore increases the yield of sugarcane up to 10 - 15 tons per ha.
4. By testing the success of this equipment mitsubishi tractor company has incresed sale turnover of about 5000 numbers or so in Tamil Nadu.
There are about 50 youth or farmers are trained in this operation who goes to farmers field and operate on rent basis and earn good income .
The machine costs Rs 36,000 (as on 11 October 2014) .
