Everyday - Ross Hannaford's Lucky Dog - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 06, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Ross told me he never should have disbanded Lucky Dog. This priceless archival CD gives a hint of why he was right about that. Live, in the early 80s, they played and you danced to the end of love.

Ross at his best was a uniquely sublime musician, and the best I ever heard from him was always live.

In his last few years he played superb R&R/R&B etc. at the St Andrews Pub with The Useful Members of Society - his solos on Neil Young's On The Beach in particular were as inspired, innovative and expressive as any electric guitar of that kind ever played by anyone ever, anywhere.

With his duos, trios and quartets at the hole in the wall venue of Claypots in Barkly Street St Kilda around the same time, his ineffably ethereal extemporisations on his own original themes were indescribably transporting.

At times it was packed there, and once, at the end of the night, I think there might have been no one there but me.

I first saw him with The Sons Of The Vegetal Mother . . . at that ballroom . . .

Like the rest of us, he was no better than he ought to be, but unlike the rest of us, he made incomparable music.

Here then, gone now.

Goodbye
Let our hearts call it a day
But before you walk away
I sincerely want to say

I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing
I wish you health
And more than wealth
I wish you love

And in the record breaking heat
A lemonade
To ease you and cool you and cease the pain
In some leafy glade
And then a kiss
But more than this
I wish you love

My breaking heart and I agree
That more of you could never be
But with my best
My very best
I set you free

I wish you shelter from the next desert storm
A safely contained fire to keep you warm
But most of all
When snowflakes fall
I wish you love
