The Rockabilly Chronicle:
Lucky 13 are a hot rockin' trio centered around the charismatic personnalities of Ed Mind on guitar and Ani Romance on electric bass with, on this platter, either Jimmy Cash or or Lance Matthyssen on drums. Both Romance and Mind write solid originals and sing which brings a lot of variety in term of sound and style.
The songs gathered on « Come Back Home » have been recorded over a period that goes from 1998 to 2012.
Their music takes its roots in the rockabilly of the fifties and goes as far as Psychobilly in the style of the Anagram era of the Meteors with everything cool in between. You'll find some rompin' instrumentals, 60′s Girl bands stuff (Paul Anka's You are My Destiny excellently sung by Romance), 80′s neo-Rockabilly (a superb cover of Red Hot'n'Blue's Bad Girl or Moonshine that many of us discovered on the Deltas debut album), and some darker stuff reminiscent of the Cramps or Empress of Fur (and their bass palyer can stand proudly next to Candy Del Mar, Ivy Poison or Venus Raygunn in term of « girl with a bad attitude ».)
If you like real rockin' music and don't aim for a purist sound, and dig the bands mentionned above, be sure to grab a copy of this platter.

Ganz schön spendabel von LUCKY 13. Die von der Sängerin und Bassistin Ani Romance und dem Sänger und Gitarristen Ed Mind angeführte Rockabilly-Band aus Ludwigsburg hat ihr zweites Album mit gleich 20 Tracks bestückt. Die explosive Mischung aus klassischem, in den 50er Jahren verwurzelten Rockabilly und knackig-frischem Rock 'n' Roll, die immer wieder durch Surf und 60's Garage-Sound angereichert wird, strotzt nur so vor Abwechslung, hat mehr Biss denn je und kommt alles andere als müde oder gar langweilig routiniert daher. Entertainment pur heißen Devise und Versprechen. Beides wird von der leidenschaftlich zu Werk gehenden Band sowohl bei den eigenen Songs wie bei bekannten Rock 'n' Roll-Nummern auch eingehalten. Musik, die restlos begeistert und ins Ohr und in die Beine geht.

Lucky 13 have been rockin' American and European audiences for the last few years, including an appearance at the Viva Las Vegas Festival, and have picked up rave reviews and an enthusiastic band of follows along the way. They followed their debut release, the mini-album 'Visitors From Hail Bop', with a full-length outing(Hot Rod Racing Mama), which includes a bonus video track. Lucky 13 play pounding all-out guitar driven Rock 'n' Roll mixed with darker, haunting compositions. The contrast in their material is, infact, very representative of the band itself. Guitarist Eddie looks mean & moody, like something from a 50s street gang, whilst Ani Romance - tall, blonde, sultry and undeniable sexy rips out some hot bass-lines. Eddie & Ani share the vocals - adding yet more contrasts in the bands sound.

LUCKY 13 - Hot Rod Racing Mama CD

„Oh je" dachte ich, als ich den Bandnamen sah. Dachte schon, dass ich die nächste Klischee-Band mit Eightballs, Flames und ganz viel wilden Tatoos zu Gesicht bekommen würde. Irrtum, statt dessen grinsen mich drei freundliche Leute an, denen man zwar die Vorliebe für Musik, die mit --billy endet, ansieht, aber die nicht so aussehen wie der 1000te Klon von jenen unsäglichen MIKE NESS-Kopisten, die nun plötzlich wie Pilze aus dem Erdboden schießen. Lässig aus der Hüfte gespielter Rock'n'Roll, der mal an die METEORS, dann an REVEREND HORTON HEAT und RANCHO DELUXE erinnert. Twangige und swampige Gitarren wechseln sich ab und im Endeffekt wäre diese Platte der ideale Soundtrack für ein Roadmovie. Eine wirklich gute Band, der man einmal ein Ohr leihen sollte. Übrigens kommt der partiell eingestreute weibliche Gesang wirklich gut. Bei einer Nummer erinnert mich die reizende Dame glatt an das zu Unrecht vergessene EMPRESS OF FUR Album.
