3DR Solo Quadcopter - ITELITE DBS Long Range Extender Test - 1-5-17 - Video
PUBLISHED: Jan 05, 2017
DESCRIPTION: Heart-pounding morning. I upgraded the Solo with a ITELITE DBS Longe Range Extender to increase the signal range from .5 miles to potentially 2.5 miles. Also upgraded the stock GPS unit to a mRo GPS u-Blox Neo-M8N. Almost too excited to sleep, dreamed about flying the Solo all night, woke up sans alarm before the crack of dawn and was out at Eagle Nest Park before sunrise.
I didn't push it - went 2000 yards (about 1 mile) and ascended to 400 feet (the maximum legal limit.) Still had signal to spare. Awesome. This was my first flight *really* leaning on the FPV (First Person Video) because the Solo just becomes less than a speck in the Florida sky. Lots of birds at Eagle Nest Park, including eagles, so I tend to land if many of them get close, but there are some lovely white fowl and one blue egret that make non-threatening appearances here. I also had a bash at navigating some obstacles in order to buzz the lake. You can see where I stop short and readjust, not yet trusting my judgement on distances on close objects.
