Lord of the Flies (1963) choir song audio - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 02, 2007
DESCRIPTION:
In the 1963 film adaptation of William Golding's "Lord of the Flies", Jack and the rest of the choir are heard singing a song with hard-to-understand lyrics. After I heard this song, however, I was singing it for the rest of the day (guessing, wrongly, that the repetition was of "cheerio"). I searched for a video of the song on YouTube -- no luck. So, after a little digging, that's the video I made!

You can download the music in MP3 form. Right-click the link and select "Save As...": http://www.lordoftheflies.org/wav/lotfk3.mp3 (750 KB, 1:04)

The song is the varying repetition of "Kyrie Eleison" which is Greek for "Lord have mercy." "Kyrie" is pronounced as "keer-E-A" and "Eleison" is pronounced "E-lay-E-son". The song goes like this:

Kyrie, kyrie, kyrie Eleison
Kyrie, kyrie, kyrie Eleison

Kyri- (ronounced as "keer-E"), kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri- Kyrie
Kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri- Kyrie

Kyrie, kyrie, kyrie Eleison
Kyrie, kyrie, kyrie Eleison

Kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri- Kyrie
Kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri-, kyri- Kyrie
