Local bands are the groundwork to greatness. At least that's what every local band HOPES. Truth be told, a large percentile of local bands are destined to fail, and not just because of the way the music business is in 2014. Rather, self-implosion and a lacking of discipline is the cause of the failure. This video isn't meant to dissuade anybody from seeking their dreams and joining or forming a local band. Rather, this should serve moreso as a warning regarding the pitfalls that exist. Not every band that starts out is destined to sell out arenas and crack the top 20 charts, hell, or even get a record deal at all. If you recognize this from the beginning, your experience can be more centered on making original and creative music, and driving the band as a brand and an experience. It can make the experience more of a fun form of self-expression, that may one day yield much greater results. But nothing worth doing comes easily, and the work put in to create this dream comes with many forks in the road, and will require endless amounts of tenacity.

Have a local band experience? Are you in a local band? Talk about your experiences in the comments below. Help your fellow musicians. Are you in a band that has a deal, or have you released material? Plug your work, or network. Lets help the collective community thrive and hopefully avoid the various pitfalls associated with building your dream of music.
