DiMarzio D-Activator 7/Liquifire 7 vs. Ibanez RGD 7421 Stock PUs - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 09, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Hey guys, this is a sound comparison between the old stock pickups of my Ibanez RGD 7421 and the new installed DiMarzio D-Activator 7 and Liquifire 7 pickups.

I´m sorry for the sloppy playing and it also took the luthier 2 weeks to install the PUs, so I couldn´t remember the exact same settings anymore, but I think you´ll get the idea of how they sound.

I was surprised how good the stock pickups sounded when you record them, because they normally sound like a bunch of bees put in a guitar pickup.^^

Basically you can say the DiMarzios have waaay better highs (not as harsh as the Ibby ones) and they have a really tight bottom end with no mud at all. Actually this was a problem for me when I recorded them. Because of the proximity effect, I had to turn back the bass knob to about 10 o´clock. However the highs sounded a bit damped...

The songs are alternately played through a Diezel D-Moll 100 Head (miced with a Shure SM57) and the Guitar Rig 5 emulation of the Peavey 5150/6505, which sounds similar to the D-Moll to give you an idea of how the pickups sound with EQ.
