Li'll Bo Tweak - Got Dat Bass - LGN016 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 05, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This is the long awaited first E.P. release from loungin' recordings own 'Trevor Loveys & Chris Belsey aka Li'll Bo Tweak. The boys have already caused a stir with their 80's Latenite Boogie remix of Art Bleek -- Between Yesterday & Tomorrow on LGN012 -- Art Bleek -- The Remixes last summer, plus their work with Herve as The Longin' Kollective with the stormer Riddim Come 4ward. This E.P. should show the diverse styles and influences of Li'll Bo Tweak plus the shape of things to come from the forthcoming album on loungin' later this year.

The E.P. kicks of with Pressin' On, and what a tune to start with!!!!!! From the onset, it's back to the Detroit sounds of the early 90's with more 808 sounds than you can shake a stick at, where the kicks & drum edits lay the way for a proper dancefloor stormer. The tune is a real jacker which captures the sound of the moment & will be one for anyone who is feeling the Dubsided, Speaker Junk & Made To Play sound.

Leading onto A2 we flow into Bring It On Down. This number really takes it's influences from the Art Bleek -- Between Yesterday & Tomorrow remix that Li'll Bo Tweak first put their stamp on last summer. The roots of the track come from both Trev & Chris' love of the early 80's boogie sounds coming from the likes of Prelude, Easy Street, Solar, Island etc. With the squelchy bassline, the phatt rhodes & the unmistakable Trevor Loveys keyboard widgets his is the track we would have loved to put on as A1....

Flip the record over & we have Got dat Bass. Straight away, as the name suggests, you are hit by a wave of sub bass I the form of a true "Miami bass" style rhythm. As the track gets going so does the dancefloor on every play so far. The 80's electro vocals merged with the rave synth stabs, which seem to be all the rage at the moment hit the right point keeping the groove going. This will be one of those tracks that will be sitting in record bags for a while!

Got dat Bass reprise was added as an after thought. This was the original sketch of track, but didn't have the energy to make it as a main tune. Many of the old Detroit sounds we all know and love give it a deep feel reminiscent of a Plant E album number whilst the beat keeps chugging in the background. At 1min 15 it fitted on this side nicely and escaped being lost on a hard drive forever...

Hold Tight!!! ends the E.P. This track really harps back to the sound of early loungin'. The broken beats, analogue synths, and seminal vocals that everyone should recognise sound like back in the day at one of the loungin' collaborations or LFR nights in 2002-2004. When dropped at CDR -- Plastic `people recently, the place blew up! Who says broken beat is over? Hold Tight!!!
