From the early sixties until the mid-seventies, Les Ambassadeurs were the flagship band of new African music. Their style, mixing ancestral art, salsa, jazz and funk, lit up “world sono”. Today, the return of this super-band does not simply take us back to a golden age. It also symbolises values of freedom and authenticity encapsulated in a sound, the unchanging, haunting groove of Mandinka pop music.

Du début des années soixante au milieu de la décennie suivante, Les Ambassadeurs ont été la formation phare des nouvelles musiques africaines. Leur style, mélange d'un art ancestral, de salsa, de jazz et de funk, a illuminé la "sono mondiale". Aujourd'hui, le retour de ce super-groupe ne fait pas que nous renvoyer à un âge d'or. Il symbolise aussi des valeurs de liberté et d'authenticité qui sont portées par un son, ce groove lancinant inaltérable de la pop mandingue.
