This is an attempt to give some context to this sculpture I made in Spring 2002 and its reason for existing. My mother described it as "an expulsion of grief".

Diss wrote his song based on the same experience (coping with the suicide of the man we both considered a hero) and I have tried to unite the themes of the song and sculpture.

I actually composed the "closing titles" section first, almost two years ago, and have decided to let them stand unaltered. The comments by Kester Devine capture a particular moment in time - a moment now nearly as distant and unreal to me as it might be to someone who wasn't there at all. Yet it was very real at the time. Life goes on.
