Quand le swing manouche et la virtuosité du jazz de Latcho Drom mené par Christophe Lartilleux, rencontrent l’énergie festive des musiques traditionnelles d’Europe de l’Est. Des retrouvailles entre lointains cousins dont les musiques ont certes une même souche mais ont arpenté des chemins différents. Aux frontières du jazz et des musiques du monde.

« Paris Budapest Caravane est la réunion des trois meilleurs représentants de leurs esthétiques musicales respectives. Ils ont chacun leur style mais ont su se rencontrer musicalement. Le Français Latcho Drom représente le swing et le jazz manouche, les Hongrois Parno Graszt sont gardiens de la musique traditionnelle Olàh tzigane et Etno Rom élargit notre champ d’écoute avec la musique Rom venue des pays d’Europe de l’Est.
Dans le cadre du projet artistique de l’Orange Bleue, scène de musiques actuelles de Vitry-le-François, je les ai invités en résidence pour réaliser cette création dont le résultat musical fut un tel succès qu’elle a entrainé une tournée internationale et la production de cet album. »

“Paris Budapest Caravane marks the meeting of three music groups who are the best exponents of their respective musical aesthetics. To each his own style, but they come together here: Latcho Drom from France are representatives of swing and gypsy jazz; and the Hungarian ensembles Parno Graszt and Etno Rom are respectively the keepers of the Tziganes’ Olàh music tradition, and Rom music from Eastern Europe. In the context of the Orange Bleue artistic project in Vitry-le-François committed to the contemporary music scene, I invited them for a residency in order to produce this creation; its musical outcome was so successful that it has led to an international tour and the recording of this album.”

Of "Manouche" origin, Christophe Lartilleux-Hart, was brought up in a travelling circus (Hart-Goujon), run by gipsy performers and musicians. he was taught to play by his father, Yvon, himself guitarist (who played many years with the accordionist Maurice Vittenet, Jo Privat). He had many musicals influences. From jazz fusion to bop, including flamenco, classic and hard rock, he played with some musicians as different as Yoshko Seffer, Alain Caron, Florin Niculescu, Laurent Korcia...But his first love was always the gipsy guitar, and Latcho Drom (meaning "have a good journey" in manouche language) is the realisation of his dream to create the Hot Club de France sounds of Grappelli and Reinhardt's famous quintet.
