There are few occasions as momentous as coming home from the pen—college graduation and wedding day come to mind. Dreamville rapper Bas taps into that unique joy on his upcoming album Last Winter, on the appropriately titled J. Cole collaboration "My Nigga Just Made Bail."

After rocking VIBE's SXSW stage, the bearded Queens rep sat down to talk about how the track came together.

"I just wanted to kind of convey a real-happy moment," says Bas, who's Last Winter project drops April 29. "Even if you haven't been through it, you can understand if your homie gets locked up and he makes bail. It's almost like a celebration—[like] 'let's go to the strip club!"
