Written by James V. Monaco, lyrics by Joseph McCarthy, the song was published in 1913. It was introduced in the Broadway revue The Honeymoon Express and used in the 1973 revival of the musical Irene. One of the earliest recordings of the song was by Al Jolson on June 4, 1913 and later performed on the soundtrack of the 1946 film The Jolson Story.
