A direct reference to the Greek word 'larigas', meaning larynx, Milan-based Greek Panagiotis Melidis' stage moniker conjures up a throaty, guttural hymn akin to the traditions of the Central Asian steppe. Instead, Larry Gus' music is a lush forest of samples, with some of the tracks on his latest DFA release Years Not Living clocking in at over 90 different fragments. Wielding his sampler like a weapon of war, this wild beatmaker fuses all of those snippets together into a funky and psychedelic collage that alludes to Animal Collective's Panda Bear as much as it does J Dilla. Live the little Greek is a sight to behold. During each of his three recent Eurosonic performances, he whipped crowds into an absolute frenzy, so you'll know where to be if you're in need of a serious workout.
