We are KYU [queue].
A metalband raised from the ashes of one of Holland’s most acclaimed nu-metalbands Dimension Seven. After the end of the Dimension seven era, a new project was born and started growing. It started of slowly at first, producing demos, small jam sessions and ever changing line-ups, but in 2006 the first serious flame could be seen. KYU was born and came out swinging with their debut album ‘STTNNRMLLLFCKDP’. The labelling of their musical genre started soon after. Some called it ‘brutal post nu-metal’, some called it ‘polyrhythmic hardcore metal’ and others spoke of ‘progressive death metal’. Those who heard KYU’s music, could not agree on the genre they played. They did agree about the quality of the music though
The fire started spreading soon across numerous underground venues. From Arnhem, it started spreading all over Holland, lighting a flame in more and more cities. KYU itself, not bothered by genres whatsoever, adopted the ‘math-metal’ genre for their energetic, brutal and grooving mix of rhythmic metal, hardcore, with a touch of doom. The energetic and tightly played shows of KYU did not pass by unnoticed. They resulted in a second place in the prestigious band contest ‘De Gesel van Gelderland’ and from there lead to memorable appearances at Dutch festivals ‘Huntenpop’ and ‘Appelpop’, as well as ‘Kabaal am Gemaal’.
The fire started turning into serious proportions, as a period of bad luck and frustration came around. Due to a lasting back injury of front man King Harm, as well as the departure of guitar player Rule, the unchained fire that KYU was becoming, was contained to their studio and practice bunker. It was in here that the felt frustration was formed into renewed energy, determination and thus resulted in the new songs that will hit the outside world in the spring of 2010. It’s around that time KYU’s second album ‘SVRGN’ is expected to renew the fires still smouldering around Holland. So everyone best be keeping some buckets of water around, cause KYU is ready to have the fire reach the venue near you!
'We don’t want to set the world on fire,
We just want to start a flame in your heart’
-KYU -
- Aardschok’s Frank Helmink over debuutalbum ‘STTNNRMLLLFCKDP'-
De muziek is net zo uniek als de CD-titel en de songtitels. Hier en daar loodzware polyritmische grooves afgewisseld met breaks die zo mogelijk nog zwaarder stampen. Iets wat vele bands proberen maar niet lukt.
- Zware Metalen over debuutalbum ‘STTNNRMLLLFCKDP’-
The sound of the album is close to perfect, the skills of the mucisians and the vocalist are far beyond average and STTNNRMLLLFCKDP has got potential.
- Rockezine over debuutalbum ‘STTNNRMLLLFCKDP’-
