DESCRIPTION:
Kronos Quartet is an American string quartet founded by violinist David Harrington in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. Since 1978, the quartet has been based in San Francisco, California. Formed with the specific intention of performing works by 20th Century composers exclusively, the Kronos Quartet have helped to expand the public's knowledge of contemporary classical composers while introducing a fresh audience to art music with their bold and innovative approach. Manfred Waffender directed Kronos Quartet: In Accord, a documentary about this gifted foursome which includes performances from the works of John Adams, John Zorn, Terry Riley, Hildegard Von Bingen, Harry Partch, and Jimi Hendrix.
Kronos Quartet: In Accord's many studio performances offer eloquent proof of the group's wide-ranging musicianship, which is equally at home in the cartoon zaniness of John Zorn, the dancing drones of Perotin's Viderunt Omnes, or the slowly unfolded anguish of Alfred Schnittke's Collected Songs.
