Kristy "Krash" Majors: Only The Good Die Young - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 01, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Kristy Majors replaced guitarist and prime songwriter Aeriel Stiles in Pretty Boy Floyd. Kristy Majors played on Pretty Boy Floyd's classic debut album "Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz" and also helped out on the songwriting.

Majors was also part of the Pretty Boy Floyd reunion in mid-1990s, but thereafter Majors pursued a solo career releasing 2 original albums, a Ramones cover album and in late 2006 "Sex, Drugs 'N' Rock N Roll".

Earlier this year the RevelationZ delegate was in England to cover the package tour: Faster Pussycat/Enuff Z´Nuff/Bulletboys and Gypsy Pistoleros. Love/Hate and Bang Tango played just a few weeks earlier with special guest Kristy Majors. Majors made an impact since several wore his t-shirt and yours truly was quite curious about Kristy Majors´ live show, which everyone praised. Therefore yours truly contacted Kristy Majors concerning a review of the crowd-praised album "Sex Drugs 'N' Rock N Roll".

"Sex Drugs 'N' Rock N Roll" isn't a return to "Leather Boyz" days, but rather a more modern counterpart. It's certainly Kristy Majors´ test piece of work for finishing his songwriting apprenticeship, because "Sex Drugs 'N' Rock N Roll" is packed with well written songs. Majors performs everything on the record and while I miss some guitar solos his skilled song writing abilities makes this album great.

Kristy's voice doesn't span wide, so basically it hampers the variation in the songs. Kritsy Majors sings a bit like CC Deville and the music is also alike Samantha 7.

Wasted In America and I'm Alright open the album in a super catchy way. Both songs are all about hooks and have irresistible signature riffs.

As the title indicates the album evolves around the Sex Drugs 'N' Rock N Roll topic. Album highlight is Kids on Dope, which underlines Majors´ ability to write a catchy tune. Live Without You is the ballad of the album and it grows.

Only 2 songs lack the high quality that characterizes the album. The upbeat Zero Superstar has a cheerful upbeat, but it's a bit too wimpy. Only the Good die Young is all right but not a stand-out track.

The album ends on a high note with Down to One, which also was featured on Jani Lane´s solo album and the Enuff Z'Nuff alike Greed, which has a unique emotional feel to it.

A-OK is a modern masterpiece. It sounds perfect for a movie where a guy just has been dropped by his girlfriend and finds out its not so bad.

The album's focus is the song writing in favor of guitar solos. The song writing is so strong that this album has rotated more than 2 months straight in my player. Kristy Majors has grown as a song writer and not stuck in the past.
