I started arranging this prior to the release of the new Zelda title, Breath of the Wild, and it really got me excited to return to Hyrule! As I type I am about to travel to Zora's Domain in BotW. Hype!

Although I like newer versions of Zora's Domain, I wanted to recreate the original music from Ocarina of Time for this video. This is my first multi-harp video with more than two parts on this channel but I doubt it will be the last. The most interesting thing about arranging this for me was replicating the percussion parts, which I found could be separated into four short repeated loops of varying lengths. I really wanted to get the sound of the hand drums just right, including the more pitched bongo-ish sounding ones, and I had a brainwave about muting the strings with Blu Tack. Amazingly adding Blu Tack not only muted the strings enough to make them sound more percussive and drum-like, but it also created these fantastic overtones in addition to the main pitch. I've talked about this with a harpist friend since and found out that the shape/size of the Blu Tack blob, AND the position on the string can change the sound produced. Definitely going to be playing with this effect more! And thank you 15 Second Harp for the tips.
