DESCRIPTION:
Late in 2012, Kent McAlister was hired to put together a trio for a performance at The Shadbolt Centre in Burnaby, BC.
He chose longtime friend and tour-mate Terri Upton (The Gruff, Frog Eyes, Carolyn Mark) and Iron Choir band-mate Melissa Bandura (FamiliarWild, The Colorifics).
The goal was to create approximately 7 minutes of music in 7 days and then perform as a part of 7 multidisciplinary groups. The inspiration was based on a line from an E.E. Cummings poem that was picked out of a hat:
"the best gesture of my brain is less than your eyelids flutter..."
Within 7 days the group had separately composed and fused each of their interpretations into one piece. It was performed on a packed Friday night in late September.
Lyrics:
"If you blink one thousand times
You'll colour blind outside the lines
This picture that my mind rewinds
And replays back
A thousand more times
I'm near; you're there
Broken gestures everywhere
And if we climb these wings of flight:
We're circles, patterns or straight lines
Circles, patterns, or straight lines
