Born in Wales, the Welsh-Irish international performing solo flautist, Katie Morgan, continuously captivates audiences with her virtuosic technique and etherial Celtic appearance.
When a knee injury ended her dancing career at the age of 14, Katie embarked
on what was to be an exciting and highly successful music career. Learning the piano at
the age of 14, and flute at the age of 16; Katie achieved grade 8 distinction,
within just six-and-a-half months of learning the flute. A few months later, she
then achieved the Advanced Certificate, followed by the LRSM diploma. Katie was subsequently a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.
At the age of 17, Katie caught the attention of International Soloist,
Jonathan Snowden, who spotted Katie's talent and took her on as his student,
despite him being a teacher, who at that time, tended to only teach postgraduate flautists and
professional musicians. She would then travel 120 miles from Wales, for regular 2-hour lessons with
Jonathan at his home in Somerset, and had to relearn the flute from scratch!
Katie subsequently accepted a place to study flute at the prestigious and internationally renown Guildhall School of Music,
London, in affiliation with City University. Katie majored in flute performance,
along side musicological studies, and graduated with a BMus honours degree, with
1st class in Guildhall Flute Performance. After graduating, she continued her flute studies
with the world-renown flautist, Paul Edmund-Davies. During her musical training, Katie also performed in prestigious international masterclasses with such eminent flautists as: William Bennett,
Jonathan Snowden, Paul Edmund-Davies, Robert Dick, Ian Clarke, Mike Mower, etc.
A recipient of several awards and prizes, Katie is a previous prize-winner of the International Young Artist Competition (2004), and is now undertaking a recording project. Although primarily a soloist, Katie has experience of chamber and orchestral work, performing at prestigious international concert venues. Recent engagements have included performances at
The Barbican, St. John's Smith Square, London; Royal Festival Hall, London;
Konzerthaus, Berlin; Sala Filarmonicii, Bukarest; to name a few. Katie is also experienced in performing all genres of flute music - classical, contemporary
(extended techniques, etc.), light jazz, folk, new age.

In addition to being a professional flautist holding traditional Music qualifications, Katie's sharp intellect and eclectic interests have also subsequently led her to follow a parallel career in academia, whilst also working as a peforming musician, flute teacher, and training as a ballet teacher! Katie holds a University of London Masters Degree in Medical Law from Queen Mary University, London. She is training as a lawyer, whilst remaining a full-time musician and music educator. She has particular academic interests in Personal Injury, Medical Negligence, and Human Rights in health and social care.
