DESCRIPTION:
When I moved to Forest Knolls, CA (West Marin) in August of 2010, I came across some lyrics written by Kate Wolf, who used to live in San Geronimo Valley in the early 1980's. The lyrics, entitled "San Geronimo Valley" (copyright 1982, Another Sundown Publishing Co. BMI) were published the 2011 "San Geronimo Valley Resource Guide" by her widower, Terry Fowler, who still lives in Forest Knolls. I found the lyrics so perfectly and poetically descriptive of the beauty of that land, and it seemed that Kate Wolf had taken the words right out of my mouth. I could not have written a better song, myself. But as the song had no music, I put my own to them, and hopefully in a way that is befitting and that honors the style of Kate Wolf.
Lyrics to "San Geronimo Valley" by Kate Wolf:
"Driving west into the sun where the road runs out to the sea
And the night sky paints a picture with the stars
Where Spirit Rock stands watching over all the weary souls
And the cows and horses watch the passing cars
Chorus: San Geronimo Valley where the towns are small and sleepy
The redwood trees stand silently, the sun and winds play freely
I've been waiting such a long time for the touch of your hand
Take me down by the waters that run on this land
There's a hummingbird trapped in the house--how long I do not know
She beats her wings but her heart is beating faster
She looks at me as I wrap her in a soft kitchen towel
As I set her free there's a lot I'd like to ask her
Chorus: San Geronimo Valley, etc.
Bridge: And if I look I might just see that the shadows of my life
Have faded in the Valley's morning sun
The hills that rise around me, and the peace that fills my heart
Lead me home to rest when the day is done
Chorus: San Geronimo Valley, etc."
