Karin Höghielm (b. 1962) is a Swedish composer and vocal artist. She has written: "Reviewers, record shops, music arrangers and not least listeners are never agreed about which genre I belong to. The possibilities vary between folk music, world music, avant-garde, minimalism, ambient and contemporary music. Characterizing my own music, I'd say it is contemporary in style with certain influences from folk music." The American composer/vocal artist Meredith Monk has been a large inspiration on her work and career path. As a native of Gotland (Sweden's largest island, located in the Baltic Sea), Höghielm has had a strong interest in traditional folk music as well as early instruments (Viking age bone flutes and bullroarers, etc), and sees her work as continuing a native Gotland music tradition

Each piece within the set "7 Postludes" (2011--12) is described by the composer with both an Italian character word and a description of what it represents. "Postludium V" is labeled "intimo — Nordic winter."
