JUNE ET JIM compose multi-voiced, multi-lingual landscapes flickering with symbolism, incantations both dark and warm, and quiescent dramas built upon rhythmic ostinatos. They fashion spirited epics from minor tales, laugh at little heresies, and worry themselves over the primeval night.

Since forming in Barcelona in 2006, JUNE ET JIM, Marion Cousin and Borja Flames, have interwoven both their voices and their two different tongues -- French and Spanish --into one coherent sound, becoming part of Le Saule artist collective in 2011.

Drawing on sources outside of new or traditional French chanson, they take the genre to its fringes where the currents turn it into something unidentifiable. There, their longtime companions Renaud Cousin (Marion's brother) on drums and Igor Estrabol on brass and woodwind hold up the earth and displace frontiers.

On their first record, Les Forts, this frontier was the Rio Bravo, which splits the American continent into the two different cultures and musical worlds that inspired their songs. Their new album, Noche Primera, borrows from genres gathered from different periods and regions: medieval Iberian canciones, traditional African chants, Bach's cantatas, Purcell's songs, and South-American folklore.

Noche Primera was recorded with all four musicians playing together live in one room, captured on tape and analog console, at Clouds Hill Recordings, in Hamburg, Germany. This process has resulted in fourteen musical pieces and interludes that combine to form a deeply resonant acoustic album full of life and breath.

Fourteen new songs that have emerged as if born by wind out of an ancient well, and that refuse to be defined by established genres and geographical or historical boundaries.
