From São Paulo, the biggest and craziest city in Brazil, comes Jumbo Elektro, a band that has been playing in lots of clubs and festivals around the country since 2003. This seven-piece group does a mix of Ramones-like punk guitars with electro beats inspired by Kraftwerk, Devo and other cool vintage stuff. Other influences include Os Mutantes, Blur and Serge Gainsbourg.

Besides the impact that comes from its music, the band gained attention in Brazil's underground for its energetic performances and sense of humour. On stage, the seven musicians incorporate weird alter-egos, each one with a bizarre profile. The lyrics are sung in mad versions of english, spanish, german, french and japonese (a freak "idiom" we call "embromation").

The multicultural and multiethnical aspects of megalopolis Sao Paulo were essencial for the band's crazy sound chemistry: Jumbo has descendents of german, african, japanese, lithuanian and italian immigrants, and its members - who also works as DJs in some night clubs around there - are always seeking for new kinds of music. That constant search is related to Tropicália, one of the most influential brazilian movements that is another reference to the group for its fusion of national original elements with pop aesthetic.

Jumbo Elektro's recent alblum "Terrorist!?" was released in 09/11/2009 by Phonobase Music Services. The first album, "Freak to Meet You - The Very Best Of Jumbo Elektro" was released in late 2004 by Reco-Head.

Jumbo Elektro are:

Frito Sampler (aka Tatá Aeroplano), great embromation composer whose misterious vocal skills goes from Johnny Rotten's tone to Caetano Veloso's. Also plays little children toys and a fire-extinguishing sprinkler; General Elektrik (aka Gunter), gifted with a great baritone voice, plays a quirky vocoder; Dimas Turbo (aka Dudu Tsuda), the man behind the delicious electronic beats and sweet keyboard licks, not to mention his glamorous performance and bizarre voice; Hans Sakamura (aka Isidoro Cobra), who gets the groove going on with fat bass lines and creates incredible sounds with his own voice; Dr. Góri (aka Fernando Maranho) the guitar riffs that makes the crowd go crazy; and Sosa Lima (aka Gustavo Souza), the drummer that provides the big beats.

Jumbo - The saga:

Jumbo Elektro played in brazilian festivals such as Rec Beat, in Recife, Vivo Open Air, in São Paulo, Goiânia Noise, in Goiânia, Coca Cola Vibe, in Belo Horizonte, and Ruído, in Rio de Janeiro. The band has four videoclipes. One of those, "Freak Cat", received a nomination for Best Independent Video in VMB 2005, the annual award given by MTV Brasil. "Fresh Fruit For Rockin' Vegetables", another video of Jumbo, was directed by acclaimed brazilian director Luis Carone. Last year, Jumbo played at Brasil Noar Festival in Barcelona, Spain and was a enormous sucess, shaking the bones of people from all over the world .
