A Yonkers Story by Chip Taylor with John Platania - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 23, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Chip Taylor's A Yonkers Story traces the life, in both story and song, of one of America's most successful and diverse songwriters, who the New York Times says, "is making some of the most important acoustic music of our day."

It tells how a kid from the NYC suburbs - brother of Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight and pioneering volcanologist, Barry - started the only country & western band in the area and was signed to the premier R&B label, King Records - all while still a teenager.

It tells how a young man shifted from a brief career as a pro golfer to a "Brill Building" songwriter churning out songs during the pop heyday of the mid 60s - including the iconic hits Wild Thing and Angel Of The Morning - and had his songs recorded by the greatest singers of the last 50 years including Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Frank Sinatra, The Hollies and Janis Joplin.
This remarkable story is told through songs - some that you already know and love and others that you soon will. The songs are both deeply personal and universal to all of us who have lived through this extraordinary period in America. It is a story about how family, rock and roll, horses, civil rights, golf and Yonkers, NY created a unique life.
