João Orecchia - Sunshine Girl - Live at HBC, Berlin - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 10, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
This is a live version of Sunshine Girl, my cover version of "It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl". Performed at HBC, the former Hungarian Cultural Centre in Berlin.

My earliest love in music was late 50's and early 60's rock and roll and soul. Heavy melodic stuff, the precursor to wall of sound and ambient music. But my introduction to experimental, noisy, strange music came through a friend I lived with in a house in the Catskill Mountains north of New York City. Through this snowy winter, Blake Fleming (one time Mars Volta drummer) would start every morning with a particular song on top volume, "It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl". I was blown away by this song. It was honest, tough, unique, and decidedly European. Faust became the light at the end of my tunnel, opening up a whole world of mad Germans, the Krautrockers, and after that to endless roads of musical exploration.

Sunshine Girl appears on my album Hands and Feet (Other Electricities/USA).

Drums by Mario Marchisella, guitar, cello and electronics by Sicker Man. Thanks to Faust and Hans Joachim Irmler.
