Joan Armatrading is one of the most celebrated musicians of her generation.
She was the first UK female singer-songwriter to gain international success, is a three-time Grammy Award nominee, has been nominated twice for BRIT Awards as Best Female Artist. She's also been honoured by the Queen, being one of the few female artists to receive an MBE.
Making her debut album in 1972, she recently released her 20th recording—Starlight. It's the final part of a trilogy covering blues, rock and soul.
She's perhaps most famous for songs like 'Me, Myself I', 'Drop the Pilot', 'Show Some Emotion', 'Love and Affection' and 'My Baby's Gone'.
