Vilas News Review
For years the Jerry Henry Band has been wowing audiences throughout the Midwest with their unique mix of classic rock sounds and driving modern blues. Henry's guitar virtuosity and powerful vocals border on the unbelievable. His ability to mimic some of the greats like Hendrix, Vaughan and Trower, combined with the energetic talents of Eric Magayne and Don Lincoln on bass and drums respectively, has been leaving music lovers around the globe asking for more since the release of their European chart-topping "Rockin' the Blues" CD.
In 2005, "Rockin' The Blues" broke onto the Top 20 Blues chart in Europe with the track "Lucille", while another track, "Messin' With The Kid", slid into the Top 100 in the UK. With tracks ranging from easy blues to all-out rockin', the CD contains the range of musical styles that has made The Jerry Henry Band's high-energy live performances so memorable. All the selections were done in JHB's own unique rockin' blues style which had many listeners around the world coming back for more.
2008 saw a surge in Jerry's popularity as a hired gun with numerous requests for his talents coming from some of the hottest bands and performers going such as Big Daddy Cade & the Blues Masters, The Lamont Cranston Band, Dave Lambert, and Geneva Red & the Roadsters. Jerry has also shared the stage with some of the Midwest's leading blues men like Bernard Allison, Paul Flipowitz, and has even done acoustic shows with the great Howard "Guitar" Luedtke.
A highlight of 2008 was Jerry's regular appearances with the all-star band Deep Water Reunion which included a showcase performance at the famous Fargo Blues Fest in August. This Chicago style blues band is made up of notable musicians who backed grammy winner Luther Allison as well as Handy Award winning James Solberg, and have performed with everyone from Coco Montoya to Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan. Jerry was both humbled and honored to have been asked to step into the shoes of these blues giants and add his own brand of burning blues guitar to DWR's lineup. The effort earned him the blues nick name "Fever" as his live performances raised the temperature of receptive audiences everywhere they performed.
A new live JHB CD was released in 2009. Entitled "Bringing On The Night", the CD features the band at their best. With no overdubs or song editing, the recording is an honest representation of what the band lives for. pouring their souls out to a live audience.
Jerry also made a cameo appearance with DWR in a feature motion picture entitled "Nonames" which is scheduled for release in 2010. "Fever" and the band wrote and performed music for the movie soundtrack, while also recording a full length CD which has recently been released to rave reviews. Stay tuned.
