Caitlin Rose and band - "I Was Cruel" at Grimey's Too, 3/7/2013 - Video

DESCRIPTION:
If you missed this one, or Caitlin Rose's show at Mercy Lounge on March 9, here's your chance to catch "I Was Cruel," a track from The Stand-In penned by guitar man Jeremy Fetzer. Man, was this in-store packed! The one-two punch of Rose and Andrew Bird drew a crowd two hours before the first set. Both shows were a blast; check my channel for video from Bird's set, too.

"Country singer-songwriter from Nashville." Those words have been applied to so many acts, good and bad, that they don't seem to mean much anymore. When applied to Caitlin Rose, they mean a wiseacre with a mature voice who is well aware of, but not intimidated by, all that came before, especially Linda Ronstadt's genre-bending '70s output.

Backed by a great band who take to vintage country-rock as well as any number of contemporary styles (and who also perform groovy instrumental sets as Steelism), Rose stopped in at the newly-opened Grimey's Too to celebrate the release of her sophomore long-player, The Stand-In.

Steelism are:
Jeremy Fetzer, guitar
Reno Bo, bass
special guest Andrew Combs, acoustic guitar
Not pictured (space so full!):
Spencer Cullum, pedal steel
Joey Andrews, drums
