Jennifer Terran "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen) LIVE - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 04, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Jennifer Terran performing "Hallelujah" for a tiny audience in a record store in the heart of freezing cold Amsterdam. 30 November, 2014/ - Leonard Cohen! Such a connected soul and with the words that reach right to the heart of the matter. I have never tired of singing this song of his. Also love, love Jeff Buckley's version. A great song like this can stand many interpretations. Anyway, the piece seems to perfectly speak to both the suffering of love and the celebration, joy of it. I do my own compositions primarily, but there are songs like these that absorb so completely into my being that they feel like my own. As we are all so very connected in our human experience, I guess this comes as no surprise.

As I mentioned in another video shared ("Candy") from this short in record store performance in Amsterdam.. this is not a typical setting for my music and certainly not the sound quality and video quality I would love to offer. I've been such a perfectionist in this way.. perhaps more than for my own good... only wanting to put out to the public what meets my standards. But then again... if it can be of service in any way... it's fine to let it go and let it out. Like we all should do! Share. Right? Thank you Leonard Cohen and the fans that video my shows even when I say please no. LOL. Hope you enjoy! Love, Jennifer T.

HALLELUJAH (by Leonard Cohen) - lyrics

Well I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?

Well it goes like this, the 4th the 5th
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king, composing hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Well you're faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
So she tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne, then she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Well baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
and love is not a victory march.
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Well there was a time when you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show that to me, do you?
But remember when I moved in you?
And holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
