In December 1967 sitting in a rented boat in Sausilito California, Otis Redding wrote the beginning lyrics of "(Sittin' on) the dock of the bay," which later Steve Cropper completed the rest of the lyrics. The pure and distinctive voice of Otis Redding propelled this song into the hearts of fan around the world. Tragically, three days after recording "Sittin' on the dock of the bay", Otis'," Beechcraft H18 airplane crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin on December 10, 1967, the singer and songwriter was only 26 years old." In January 1968, "Sittin' on the dock of the bay", reached number 1 on Billboard music charts for 16 weeks in a row and received great notability internationally as well. "Sitting on the dock of the bay" became Otis Redding's most famous hit.
