Villa-Lobos 'Danza' - Marni Nixon, soprano; Felix Slatkin conducts - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 13, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Villa-Lobos's 'Bachianas Brasileiras' No. 5 consists of two parts, the second of which, entitled 'Danza,' is here sung by Marni Nixon. Her voice was heard by millions of movie-goers, despite being uncredited, when she provided the vocals for Deborah Kerr in "The King and I", Natalie Wood in "West Side Story", and Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady." In this 1959 Capitol recording she was accompanied by a cello section under the direction of Felix Slatkin. The better-known first part, 'Aria', has previously been uploaded here from the Pristine Audio CD reissue (PASC218). The visuals mark the start of World Cup 2014 in Brazil, home of the composer!
