Jason Forrest is an electronic musician working in a variety of styles. He is also founder and Creative Director at Network Awesome, an online TV Network, and runs two record labels, Nightshifters (for club music) and Cock Rock Disco (for experimental sounds). He's a busy guy.
His sample-based music has been a pioneering force in the experimental music community since 1999. His new album, "The Everything" is his 5th full-length album and continues the creative and musical direction of his critically acclaimed 2005 album "Shamelessly Exciting".
Pitchfork recently wrote about Forrest:
"… where Girl Talk and compadres are content to punch the nostalgia button dead center, Forrest prefers to nibble around the edges with his copyright infringement. Consider "My 36 Favorite Punk Songs" from Shamelessly Exciting, which is exactly what it says, but dices each sample down to almost-subliminal length, weaving out of those microfibers new material that is simultaneously punk and punk's mortal enemy, prog. The final product is better than fair use; it's novel use."
In 2010 Forrest was asked to make the only official remix commissioned for Arcade Fire's song "No Cars Go" for Merge Records 20 year anniversary remix compilation.
The fantastic War Photographer video by Joel Thrussell was named video of the year by Res magazine 2006, and top 5 by Pitchfork media. It has been downloaded more than 1,000,000 times (crazy, right?) The "Steppin Off" video directed by the legend Jon Watts was also named video of the year by Res magazine, 2005.
A US Citizen, Jason Forrest currently resides in Berlin with his wife Jen Ray. He has released records in the US, UK, EU, and Japan, has played on 4 continents and many, many shows around the world garnering him a large international audience along the way.
