DESCRIPTION:
Red Pill Entertainment is pleased to announce the release of A May Morning, the second album by Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Sarah Pray, the follow-up to 2010's Empty Words.

"There's so much to love with this new work of Sarah's," Red Pill co-owner Lauren Markow said. "There's an echo of a kind of Emmylou Harris presence, and a gentle but visceral power to the melodies and lyrics. Sarah's growth as a songwriter is proving to be spectacular and so satisfying to witness."

The 11 songs on A May Morning reflect a turbulent time in Pray's life that saw her tour Europe, end a long-term relationship and begin a new one, and cope with the death of a close friend. As a result, there's a sense yearning and loss throughout the record, but also a sensuality that Pray's gentle voice conveys beautifully on "Dream of a Girl" and "Maybe in the Morning."

The soul-searching continues into an exploration of society's gender expectations on "Be A Man" and "Little Debbie." "I'll die before I start to fall for the image of a doll that my magazine shares with me / Tell me I can be a man," she sings on "Be A Man."

Basic tracks for A May Morning were recorded in the summer of 2011, with the rest of the recording taking place from December 2011 to January 2012. All recording was done at Red Pill Studios in St. Louis, with Jacob Detering mixing and producing.

Pray's acoustic guitar is front-and-center on all tracks, with lead guitar provided by Dan McMahon (Cory Chisel, Amy Petty). Tony Esterly's pedal steel graces "When I Come Home," "Promise Me," and "Maybe in the Morning." Darren Garvey (Cory Chisel, Cameron McGill & What Army) plays drums and percussion with Detering contributing bass. Thomas Kivi, with whom Pray recorded a live EP, Winter in Decatur, in April 2012, contributes background vocals.

Based in St. Louis, Red Pill Entertainment is an artist facilitation firm. With its own studio and relationships with musicians across the country, Red Pill is committed to finding new models of artistic development and sustainability in the modern musical climate.
