"I'd like to think I'm everything that Afrika Bambaataa would've envisioned hip-hop to be in 2008, 2016, 2030." – Mickey Factz, SPIN Magazine (May 2008)
It's a new age for music. The once broad gap between genres has been blurred and the experience made viral. As a new cultural revolution unveils itself to the masses, one artist has been navigating himself through this realm of waves and pixels. Creating an identity and following so surreal, he's pronounced himself to be music's digital messiah.
Helming from a city he refers to as "The Black Apple," Mickey Factz, 24, is the archetype for today's new artist. Always ahead of the curve, in 2006 he took to the internet and began by releasing free downloadable mixtapes. By the winter of 2007, he broke out reaching worldwide praises with the release of "Heaven's Fallout." Laying his fierce and controlled but at times sensual narratives over an eclectic array of music from alternative to rock to electronic while still embracing his hip-hop foundations. He christened the project as "the genesis of the new sound of hip-hop for a new generation."
With a drive that is unprecedented and inspiring, Mickey goes on to cement his presence even further as a future emcee to be reckoned with. Having released that acclaimed mixtape and others since. Garnering press coverage from TheFader, XXL, SPIN, MTV and more. Performing in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, China & Japan. Having worked with The Cool Kids, Chester French, Afrika Bambaataa, Drake, Travis McCoy of the Gym Class Heroes and others. Releasing notable "white-label" remixes of songs by Lykke Li, Portishead, Phoenix, & Zoot Woman. Becoming the new face for a national Honda Accord campaign. As well as co-founding GFCnewyork, an artist/brand management and marketing company. All before officially releasing his first single, "ALPHA," an uptempo anthemic ode to the beginning of his and our journey in this new day.
As he continues "The Black Apple" legacy left to him by the likes of Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, A Tribe Called Quest, Paul Simon, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and others. He's creating art that communicates the messages of the time to the people. In hopes to leave his mark on the culture of a new generation. Mickey Factz confides in the belief that, "blessed are those who explore the unbeaten path." His fortunately, comprising the ones and zeros of the superhighway of these times. ALPHA.
