Itation Records Biography-
Starting as a Sound System in 1998, Itation has moved forward to becoming a record label in 2007. Working mostly out of the Itation Studio in California, they have been able to collaborate with many artists who frequent the Bay Area.
Their first riddim was produced with the help of St. Croix reggae artist "Batch" and Executive Producer Daniel "Jah Mystic". The riddim is called "Higher Meditation", and is now out featuring other artists such as Sizzla, Jah Mason, Wayne Wonder, Delly Ranx, and Freddie McGregor
Itation's follow up riddim to the Higher Meditation, is called the "Show Love" riddim. It was produced with Jah Sun of More Love Productions. It has many wicked combinations, including Jah Sun's big tune with Prezident Brown, "Show Love". Other big artists on the riddim are, Gyptian, Norris Man & Pressure, Binghi Ghost & Luv Fyah, Lady Passion, Lutan Fyah, Natty King, Rocker T, Batch and many more. It was released in May 2008.
September 29, 2008, San Francisco, California - Itation Records is proud to present to the world the cultural riddim set, the World Go Round riddim, now available on I-Tunes and e-tailers everywhere. On this, its third riddim release, Itation brings together Pressure, Sizzla, Delly Ranx, Turbulence, rising stars Kali Blaxx and Niyorah, and many more. Featuring the creativity and musicianship of renowned French riddim builders, Tune In Crew, World Go Round is a musically diverse riddim with solid, up to the time roots and kulcha credentials. “It was a worldwide collective effort with French musicians, artists from Jamaica, Bermuda, the Virgin Islands, and United States,” says Itation’s Dread Lion. “The riddim definitely reflects the fact reggae music makes our world go round.” Look for the exclusive WGR mix on the Riddim Magazine (Germany) covermount CD in the November/December issue (street date - October 16th) and for a select track on Reggae Vibes (France) covermount CD in November.
Set against Tune In Crew’s driving bass line and wicked cultural grooves, Pressure leads the way with an international praise-song to the healing of the nation, “Ganja Makes The World Go Round”. “Ah toke me tokin’/ ah smoke me smokin’/ Should ah know ganja mi deh promotin’/ no joke me jokin’/ A choke me chokin’/ A confidential me smokin’ until the open”. Jah Mason’s “My Queen” raises the vibes while Niyorah brings an up-tempo mix of classic VI roots reggae vocals, a Jamaican deejay lyrical flow and hard hitting rhymes he spits with a passion reminiscent of a Brooklyn native on “No Pain No Gain”.
Sizzla’s “Goodness”, “The Way You Live” from Chezidek, and Delly Ranx’ “Wish Good” confirm the fact roots and kulcha is very much alive and well. And the young star on the rise, Kali Blaxx energizes the youths with bold messages of hope and resilience on “Free Up Your Mind” while the hypnotic vocal flow of Meru Matu’s “Truth Order And Unity” shows the promise of the next generation. Rocker T, Ras Matthew, Danjres, Gideon and Troy Anthony complete the World Go Round riddim set which provides 13 more reasons to love reggae music, its messages, its vibes and its ability to make the World Go Round.
Itation Records emerged on the scene in 2007 with The Higher Meditation riddim and quickly followed up with the widely acclaimed Show Love riddim in early 2008. Creativity, quality productions and top artists have been the key to success and Itation has no plans to change the formula.
A little more about Itation Sound below
Originally based out of Burlington Vermont, the six-man crew consists of Dread Lion, Tosheba, Nickel B, J-Trees, Heartical Dan and now out of Oakland, Jah Mystic. Itation Sound has been blazin' up the reggae scene since the end of 1998, performing everywhere from Arizona to Amsterdam. Itation Sound first entered the reggae scene when Dread lion and Selector Selah would play out at house parties, college dorms, and private functions throughout the state of Vermont. More and more as their reputation grew so did their popularity, taking Itation outside of Vermont, performing at shows and festivals in areas of New York, Massachusetts, Maine, and Pennsylvania.
In the next few years a new addition of Itation came when selector Heartical Dan joined the crew. With the Sound expanding so did their vibes as Dread Lion and Heartical Dan each started holding down their own weekly reggae radio shows on WRUV 90.1, a radio station in Burlington, Vermont. Having two selectors on the radio and performing at bars and clubs throughout Burlington. Things really started to take off after given an opportunity through WRUV to hold down the early vibes at Higher Ground, a nightclub in Burlington that hosted most of the reggae/dancehall acts passing through the state. Nickel B was a nightclub selector from Burlington known for his style of scratching, mixing, and remixing dancehall, reggae, and hip hop. After appearing several times as a guest on Dread Lion’s radio show Nickel B became an I-fficial member of Itation Sound. DJ Tosheba made his break through as a selector who performed next to Itation during their monthly soundsystem gigs called Unity Sounds held in Burlington. Tosheba brought to the soundsystem energetic performances. Having the opportunity as being the house soundsystem for the local reggae club, Itation has opened up for such artists as Capleton, Jimmy Cliff, Sizzla, Wayne Wonder, Beenie Man, Israel Vibration, Buju Banton, The Wailers, Warrior King, Mikey Dread, Meditations, Sanchez, Rupee, The Wu-Tang Clan, Culture, Sean Paul, Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, T.O.K., Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Luciano, and Anthony B. Itation has also promoted gigs for artists Barrington Levy, Delly Ranx, Mega Banton, and Tony Rebel.
