Irv Irving

It's unclear whether Irv Irving, the fine new American songwriter, is named after the rock band, Irv Irving, or the band is named after him. What is clear is that Irv Irving is ready to bust out. The group has spent the past year honing its unique brand of rock to a packed house as residents at the legendary Living Room in New York City. At the same time it has played shows at venues such as the Bowery Ballroom with respected groups ranging in diversity from bluegrass (King Wilkie) to [alternative rock] (Stellastarr). After attending one such show, the record producer Roger Greenawalt (Ben Kweller, Nils Lofgren, Iggy Pop) effused, "Youngsters shouldn't be this good at music, but they are. Their skill level as individuals, combined with an exemplary ensemble sensitivity, is truly shocking."



Irv Irving's songs occupy their own dimension. Whether invoking the poetry of John Keats, the deep eerie blues of Robert Johnson, or simply pounding out rock n roll a la The Rolling Stones they capture a mood that stays with the listener long after the song is finished. At the same time they always entertain. As Jorge DoCouto (Co-Founder, East Village Radio) put it, "Finding authenticity isn't easy. Irv Irving stays clear of typical musical trappings, they get their music across not by hiring great stylists but through great songwriting." Or, as Samantha Parton (The Be Good Tanyas) more simply put it, "Irv Irving is a huge talent. Recording with him was an honor. I love his songs."
