What's my name?! - az új lemez
2009. november 13-án, pénteken tartja a Gödör klub nagytermében az Irie Maffia What's my name?! címu, várva várt új stúdiólemezének budapesti bemutatóját. A pesti buli után egyhónapos hazai lemezbemutató turnét tartanak, ahol érintik Székesfehérvárt, Veszprémet, Miskolcot, Debrecent, Pécset, Sopront és Szombathelyet is. A Slow down chale c. számhoz pedig osszel elkészül az új videoklipp.
A repprokkreggi munkacímen készült 14 számos anyagon a Maffia csapatának jól ismert sztárénekesei, Sena, Columbo és Busa Pista mellett a közönségkedvenc Mc Kemon, valamint a jamaikai énekes Blessed is közremuködik.
A What's My Name?! címu album az elso lemezhez hasonlóan sokszínu alkotás, azonban a hetvenes évek mellett ezúttal napjaink modern hangzásvilága is hatott a Maffia zenei kavalkádjára. A reggae zenekarként elkönyvelt funkos, rockos, hiphoppos csapat ezúttal némi elektronikát is a lemezre csempészett. Az új számok egy részét a közönség már a nyári fesztivál szezon alatt megismerhette, és a koncertek alapján úgy tunik, több szám máris akkora kedvenc lett, mint az elso lemez címadó dala, a Hands in the air. Az új album különlegessége, hogy a rajongók nagy örömére Sena most magyarul is énekel majd. A lemez teljes zenei anyagát a zenekar állította össze, valamint az összes studiómunkát maga végezte el.
A stúdiózásról és a 2009-es bulikról sokszáz órányi videofelvétel készült, amit hamarosan láthattok. Minderrol elozetesen annyit árulhatunk el, hogy Gáspár atya egy alkalommal bekapta a horgot, Meggyes Ádám a trombitájából a nyári fesztiválok végén kimosott egy buszjegyet, az ízületi fájdalmakra használt borogatásból pedig borsófozelék lett vacsorára.

A 2005-ben alakult Irie Maffia rövid ido alatt az egyik legjobb magyar koncertzenekarrá notte ki magát. Nem csoda, hiszen a reggae, hiphop, rock és funk határait egymásba mosó bandának a frontvonalában koncentrálódnak az újgenerációs kedvencek: a ghánai-magyar énekesno Sena, a legeredetibb jamaikai ragga hanggal megáldott MC Columbo, és a reppsztár-családapa, MC Busa licitálnak egymásra szövegeikkel. A tizenegytagú zenekar vezetoje a harsonás Élo Márton (Dermot), aki közösen Horváth Gáspárral (Jumo Daddy), a zenekar másik alapítójával a zeneszerzésért is felel.
A Dési Tamás dobos és Havas Miklós basszusgitáros által alkotott dobbasszus páros korábban több ismert hazai zenekarban bizonyította tehetségét együtt és külön-külön is, session zenészként. Szekér Ádám gitáros személyében, aki szintén több ismert eloadó oldalán megfordult már zenészként, dalszerzoként, megtalálták a tökéletes társat: Irie Maffia Rocktrió néven elhíresült dob-basszus-gitár hármasuk alkotja a zenekar kemény magját. Möszio Zsömoá az ország legkábítósabb perkásaként erosíti a zenekart. A Maffia tavaly nyáron váltott új tormbitásra, Meggyes Ádám nagyszeruen megfelel a zenekar és a közönség elvárásainak. A tagfelsorolásban végül, de persze nem utolsó sorban dj Future verhetetlen szkreccsmesterként pakolja a lemezeket a rock alá.
Az elmúlt négy évben az Irie Maffia az összes hazai fesztivál minden lehetséges színpadán koncertezett, soundsystem felállásban (lemezlovasok és énekesek) pedig az ország klubjait járták be. Az Irie Maffia Soundsystem a Corvin teton tart heti klubbestet, ahol minden kedden éjjel jamaikai gyökeru zenéket, dancehall-t, reggae-t és hiphopot játszanak.
A zenekar elso albumának (Fel a kezekkel!) lemezbemutatója 2007. december 1-én volt az A38 Hajón, teltházas bulival. A Bombaklaat címu szám a Radio Cafén az oszi játszási toplista elso tíz helyezettje közé került, két hétig vezette is azt. 2008 tavaszára elkészült az elso klipp is, a közönségkedvenc Hands in the air számhoz. A 2008/34. heti, augusztus végi magyar MTV top selection listát, azaz a Music tv legtöbbet játszott dalait ez a szám vezette. 2008 oszén az Irie Maffia a nézok szavazatai alapján bekerült az öt legjobb magyar zenekar közé az MTV European Music Awards Local Hero versenyében.
2008 augusztusában az index.hu mint a Sziget fesztivál legjobb koncertjérol írt az Irie Maffia bulijáról. 2009-ben pedig már a jól megérdemelt nagyszínpados fellépések is beértek, ötezer fos rajongótábor tombolt a Balaton Sound nagyszínpadánál a Maffiára, de zajos sikert arattak a Campus fesztivál nagyszínpadán, és a Sziget Mr2 magyar zenei nagyszínpadán is .
2009-ben a zenekar 20 állomásos tavaszi turnén van túl, ahol az ország minden szegletében nagy sikerrel játszottak. Júliusban a Párizsi Magyar Intézet vendégszeretetét élvezve a francia fovárosban is szólt a magyar reggae. A nyári fesztiválszezon 30 bulija után októberre készült el az új klipp a Slow down chale c. számhoz, ami már az új nagylemez egyik slágernótája.

What's my name?!- the new album
Irie Maffia launches its What's my name?! new album in the great room of Gödör Club Budapest on Friday 13th November 2009. After this party they'll perform a one-month-long tour of launching the album nationwide which includes Székesfehérvár, Sopron, Veszprém, Miskolc, Debrecen, Pécs and Szombathely. The song Slow Down Chale will have its new video in autumn this year.
The stuff of 14 songs made upon raprockreggae style features the star singers of the Maffia: Sena, Columbo and Busa Pista in addition everyone's fav Mc Kemon and the Jamaican singer Blessed.
The album What's My Name?! is also of a widerange style like the first one, but besides the feeling of the seventies the nowadays' modern sound had its impact on the music of the Maffia. The band known as reggae stylish of funk, rock and hiphop gang has put some electronic sound on the album. Some of the new songs have already debuted during the festivals in the summer, and it seems that one or two of these have become such a fav like the Hands In The Air that is included in the first album. The specialty of the new album is that Sena sings in Hungarian. The whole music stuff of the album is created by the band and all the works in the studio was performed by them.
Biography
Having been formed in 2005, Irie Maffia soon became a firm favourite with the young party-goers of Budapest, which can hardly be considered a surprise given the powerful medley of reggae, hip-hop, rock and funk they play, and the impressive line-up in terms of the Hungarian underground-music scene. Sena, Busa and Columbo are all well-known figures of Budapest nightlife. Among the musicians are such names as Dermot, the ingenious bandleader and trombone-player, or Jumo Daddy, the Hammond organ wizard.
The band has performed at practically every festival in Hungary imaginable, while their sound system formation (consisting of the DJs and MCs of the band) has been kept busy by the clubs of the country.
The memorable full house release party of the Mafia’s first LP, Fel a kezekkel! (Hands in the air), took place on A38, a popular party boat in Budapest, in December, 2007.
Irie Maffia's first video clip, shot for their most popular song, Hands In the Air, came out by the spring of 2008.
In autumn 2008 the Irie Maffia was one of the 5 nominees for MTV European Music Awards Local Hero in Hungary.
The band's sound system formation holds weekly club nights in Corvin teto, offering awesome reggae music to the Tuesday night audience of the venue.
The popularity of Irie Maffia, however, is by no means restricted to the borders of Hungary. Their first recording in 2006 made use of a dancehall riddim, the Rodeo riddim (formerly made popular by the mighty Seeed), which was released by Germaica Records, Europe’s leading reggae/dancehall record company.
To make the most of the success, the Maffia went on tour to several European destinations, amongst which was the Italian Rototom Sunsplash in 2007, probably the greatest reggae competition of the continent. They came in second with an outstanding performance after the local Italian heroes, which was an immense achievement in the light of the fact that they had had to convince a thoroughly orthodox jury with their rather eclectic and innovative kind of music.
Having fulfilled the requirements of Dutch/foreign trustees, the Maffia took part in Amsterdam's My City Budapest Festival, an event featuring the most important Hungarian bands.
They were also asked to participate in a festival in Rovereto, Italy, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the end of WW2, to which each European country's national radio station deputed one band.
