"In Memoriam" is one of David Maslanka's lesser known works for wind ensemble, based around the hymn "Nur den lieben Gott lasst walten" ("If you only trust in God to guide you"). It was composed for Ray Lichtenwalter, former Director Of Bands at UT Arlington, in memory of his deceased wife Susan. Like his "Mountain Roads," Maslanka's "In Memoriam" sees death not as something morbid, but as a process of transformation.
