Icarus is the product of two like-minded cross-Atlantic producers finding common ground mid-flight. On this debut track, unearthed from the umbra exclusively for Scion Sessions, the downtempo head-knod jazz revisions of Toronto's young talent Jesse Futerman enmesh indistinguishably from the spatial approach of his Dutch counterpart, Kratos Himself. Meandering piano, intoxicating loops plucked from struck strings, a sensible up-beat, hoots, hollers, and the rotating ominousness defined by the genius of Amon Tobin, as a single prevailing touchpoint, cast an intriguing insight to the minds of this pairing, individually and as one: Icarus. Theirs are sounds steeped in aura, sentiment, and familiarity, but crafted beyond date, time or place, flung forward as a promise that attention be paid, and reverent odes beget new creations.
