Not being able to afford a top of the range plinth for my Garrard 401 turntable, I decided to DIY one at home with MDF. There are so many opinions as to the best material to use and I'm sure they all have their merits but if you try and make up your mind about this by searching the internet you may, like me, end up more confused than informed. I wanted something that sounded reasonably good and my wife wanted something that sounded and looked good. I built the plinth out of MDF and veneered it myself with white oak veneer and I believe I've achieved both, at least until I can afford to have audiophile tastes!

The poor old 401 spent about 20 years in attics and sheds and was on the verge of being thrown out more that once. Now, thankfully, after being completely reconditioned by Dominic Harper of Northwest Analogue of Preston, Lancashire, UK it is back in it's rightful place and sounding better than ever.
