Hans Richter VS. Hi Lo Fi :::: Ghosts Before Breakfast via Driver - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 22, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
"The nazi's destroyed the original sound version of this film as "degenerate art". It shows that even objects revolt against regimentation."
This 1927 avant garde film was produced by Hans Richter (April 6, 1888 -- February 1, 1976), a painter, graphic artist, avant-gardist, film-experimenter and producer.
"Richter believed that the artist's duty was to be actively political, opposing war and supporting the revolution. His first abstract works were made in 1917. In 1918, he befriended Viking Eggeling, and the two experimented together with film. Richter was co-founder, in 1919, of the Association of Revolutionary Artists ("Artistes Radicaux") at Zürich. In the same year he created his first Prélude (an orchestration of a theme developed in eleven drawings).

Timothy J Allen is an artist currently living in Brooklyn NY. He runs a collective called Hi Lo Fi a band sometimes 12 or 13 deep- through loft parties, clubs and street fairs delivering an electric brew of industrial-samba-funk. The sounds set to this amazing old film were from an improvisation from the first set of the first show the band ever played. It took place at Zebulon, a haven for improvisational and experimental music in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on the night of a full moon in august of 2005. the musicians on this track are Timothy Allen (organ, guitar loops) Kevin Raczka (drums) Ryan Ferreira (guitar) Mike Williams (bass trumpet, shekere) Eli Asher (trumpet) Rob Jost (Bass) Dave Crowell (T Sax) Alex Hamlin (B Sax) Jeremiah Fox (Percussion) Dave Treut (Percussion) Matt Downey (claves)
