In 1991 Rap and R&B artists banded together to form the group Dance Appeal to record the single "Can't Repress the Cause".
The single was to support an application that was made to the CRTC to obtain Canada's first urban radio station. The song features many stars of that era such as Lillian Allen, Devon, B Kool, Erica Fachin, Carla Marshall, Maestro Fresh Wes, Dream Warriors, HDV, Thando, Hyman, Messenjah, Jillian Mendez, Michie Mee, Dionne, Lorraine Segalo, Lorraine Scott, Self Defence, Leroy Sibbles, Zama, Thyron Lee White. Dancers Cougar and Blast.
The bid was unsuccessful and was lost to a country music station. The song and went on to get play on Rap City (Muchmusic) and win a Juno for best R&B/Soul Recording for 1991.
