Raised in South West Atlanta, Charlie Boy aka Charlie Hustle (real name Antonio Sawyer) influences reflected his upbringing. The soulful melodies of Al Green and Aretha Franklin, the unpredictable sounds of the Dungeon Family and the entrepreneurship of Atlanta’s trap scene all serve Charlie with the kind of inspiration to create music that's able to touch the listener, no matter the region. It's his ability to mix his influences that according to Charlie Boy makes his "music stand apart from what everything else in the game right now".

In the mid 1990’s, at Pebblebrook High, Charlie Hustle destiny led him to Antoine Rodgers aka Bobby Creek water. The two instantly clicked and came together to form the group, JATIS, were offered a deal with Loud Records, then the home of powerhouse acts like Wu-Tang, Big Pun and Mob Deep.

Unfortunately, Loud Records folded before the Jatis album was ever completed, and Charlie found himself back at square one. Determined to make his mark, Charlie focused his attentions on becoming a well rounded solo artist. Not surprisingly, most of the support Charlie had attained during his short tenor at Loud disappeared shortly after he was dropped; including many of the producers he relied on for his sound.

"In this business, it won’t manifest until you realize it’s all on you, you, and you!” Charlie was then forced to make life altering decisions that he never had to make before. Instead of joining the military or going to art school as his family deeply insisted Charlie increased his hustle as the school of hard knocks started sending recruitment letters.

Feeling as if his career was coming to an end, Charlie got his first apartment in the Bedford Pine Projects, in Atlanta’s 4th Ward. After a brief stint in the Atlanta Penal System, Charlie realized that there was more to life than what he’d just experienced. Upon his release, longtime friend and recording artist, Fiona Simone, presented Charlie with an offer that he couldn’t refuse leading to Charlie supporting the Black Out Movement from 2003-2005.

Listeners got a glimpse of Charlie Hustle on the now classic “Gangsta Grillz” mix-tape series, Lights Out. Hosted by The Aphilates own DJ Don Cannon, the mix-tape showcased Charlie Hustle’s knack for standing out as he purposely strayed away from the normal jacking-for-beats stylings that come from today’s mix tape scene.

"An Interscope Record Exec once told me that I must first lock down Atlanta before I took over the world", says Charlie. "and I found that to be true because if no one knows you in Atlanta, who in the hell will know you in Compton"!

Charlie Boy is now hard at work gearing up for his debut album, under his own imprint, MBG (Money Bag Guaranteed). Stay Tuned……………………
