ALL LIVES MATTER: September is National Suicide Prevention Month, a time to learn what we can about this disaster of a problem among our veterans, our teens and more.

This is a complex problem with many contributing factors such as undiagnosed chemical conditions of the brain or a person's inability to cope with loss or memories. Sometimes enormous stress can arise out of someone's environment such as bullying (in the case of teens.) Whatever the trigger, suicide can become a very sad attempt at an escape.

BE AWARE & SPEAK LIFE: "We can be a mirror of hope for others by reflecting the worth of every person we encounter in our daily lives, whether these individuals are family, friends, neighbors, coworkers or strangers we meet somewhere. We can take a moment to thank people who help us throughout our week such as servers in restaurants, our utility workers, grocery clerks, our postal workers, or health care professionals. We can pause from our addiction to staring at our phones long enough to look up and actually "see" who is standing before us and find a way to leave that person feeling valued. We cannot make up for all that may have happened to someone that triggered emotional pain, but we can optimize our moments with each human we come across and invest a little love. Who knows? It might end up being the one thing that helps turn the page for another from seeing through a lens of hopelessness, to seeing a clearer future where their presence and experience matters. It could help to save a life." Ann M. Wolf
