*** Introducing the Dynavector DV-20X high output moving coil cartridge! ***

My new VPI Scoutmaster plays Holly Cole on vinyl! This is a re-issue from Classic Records on 200g vinyl.

I picked up a Dynavector cartridge as an experiment because I didn't feel the Zyx sounded it's best on the Scoutmaster. The Zyx sounds fantastic on the Rega P25, but sounded veiled, dull and 'CD-ish' on the VPI. The Dynavector is a much better match for the Scoutmaster's unipivot arm. The only problem with the Dynavector is the high output is too much for my Audio Research tube preamp; when I connect the outputs to my Inspire recording interface, it distorts and pops from being overloaded. I had to use my trusty Musical Fidelity X-LP instead.

I love this song, and I think Holly Cole does the best cover of it. :) This record is a torture test for sibilance since her voice was recorded so 'hot'.

I was listening to the song as I was editing the video and I felt compelled to grab the camcorder and go out and record some nice blue sky and clouds. I thought it fit the song. Let me know what you think!

This video is meant as a demonstration and critique of the vinyl media format, the VPI Scoutmaster turntable, Dynavector DV-20X moving coil cartridge, and Musical Fidelity X-LP phono preamp. No copyright infringement was expressed or implied. Please support the artist and purchase their music.
