CSS011 Welcome to the Creekside Songwriters Showcase at The New Orleans Cafe - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 22, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
The Creekside Songwriters Showcase is held on the last Wednesday of every month from 7 to 10 PM at The New Orleans Cafe in Mandarin. It's an Open Mic for Singer - Songwriters. All original music performed by the original songwriter. We'd love to have you join us on stage or in the audience.

Did you happen to see the Beatles at the Cavern Club?  Me neither.  But I did see 20 Musicians on the Creekside Stage last night playing original tunes.  If you stayed home in front of the TV and missed our show, I'll have the videos on YouTube in a couple of days.  And Neal (The Owner) took some time out to enjoy the performance and offered a Sat Night gig to one of the Creekside Musicians on the spot.  Details below . . .

On our Stage for CSS011-Dec 29th 2010
Alex Marie, Andre Wiley, CJ Fluharty, Ed Linsky, Frank White, Hannah Bowlus, Jeremy King, Joey Lynch, John Hollins, Kurt Gary Hall, Marc Rubinstein, Mike Burns, Mike Calderin, Mike Crystal, Ryan, Skip Towne, Stephen Fleming, Steve Griffith, Stu Weaver, and Todd Morse.

Musicians in the audience:
Biker Bob, Craig, Erin, Gary, Vintage Steve and a couple of guys just checking us out for next month's Showcase.

Johnny Hollins opened the show with a clever tune called Hallowed Ground and gave Frank White some time to mix the sound on his new board.  Yes, he wore "the hat."  John brought his friend Joey Lynch who played a set that included Bucking Horse.  And next, Ed Linsky played for the very first time on our Creekside Stage his original song, Get Up and Go.  Stu Weaver took the stage for his set and played She Sings To Me just in time for Neal White to offer him the Saturday Night / New Years Day gig on the Upper Deck.  Fitting to start out the new year with a Creekside Musician on deck at The New Orleans Cafe.  Congratulations Stu. Thanks Neal.  Mike Burns invited his good friend Mike Crystal on Blues Harp to join him for a set on the Creekside Stage that included the clever lyrics of Ain't Got Blues.  Next, Hannah Bowlus and her mandolin took me back to the days of 78s with her sweet sounds and haunting lyrics.  Her friend Stephen Fleming joined her on stage for harmonies that tickled our ears. Alex Marie, who could not be any cuter, played a set that included Back To My Soul after she plugged her band, The Lawless Hearts.  Her friend Ryan joined her for the set.  CJ Fluharty took the stage next to impressively perform for the happy patrons a set that included his song, Yes.  I don't think CJ actually needed a mic, but we ran his voice throught the Bose anyway.  I saw his "litter sister" singing along while she snacked on some tasty New Orleans treats.  Marc Rubinstein of Almost Famous wore his new hat, loved by blondes and hated by brunettes (the hat, not Marc), and played the reminiscent song he wrote last month, My Song, while Ellen delivered another round to the "Party People" in the corner.  Todd Morse of the duo Strange String then graced the Creekside Stage with a set that included Are We There Yet?  Skip, Sleepy, and The King took a break from their gig on the Upper Deck to play a couple of originals including, Ya Gotta Eat.  Jeremy King on lead vocals and booming sax, Skip Towne and Mike Calderin on guitar and vocals were a treat to hear.  Andre Wiley, that's Andre from Idlewood, sang a set and played along on the Taylor.  Always a pleasure.  After watching all the performers take the stage, Steve Griffith decided it was his turn to take the stage and played Just Like Love.  Great song, Steve.  Kurt Gary Hall played a couple of "bar songs" including a "snippett" on his newest.  Marc and Frank traded hot licks on dueling guitars for our late-night jam as we packed up the show for this edition of the Creekside Songwriters Showcase.  See you all in January for the next Showcase.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!
